Zones of Regulation 2.0
Play is an essential part of any child's development, and behavioral interventions must include instruction in play and leisure skills. In our report, we will talk about the effectiveness of using video modeling in teaching both simple functional play and role play. We will analyze the practical side of the intervention using the example of several cases, and also share our conclusions about the use of this strategy.
This practical report presents the results and experience gained over three years of work at the center through a program aimed at improving self-regulation and emotional control.
The program is based on dividing each of our emotional states into four conditional regulation zones, designated by the colors blue, green, yellow, and red.
In lessons and practical sessions, students are assisted in identifying the zones that correspond to their conditions and in selecting techniques that allow them to remain in a specific zone or transition to another.
Students can not only improve their self-regulation abilities but also expand their vocabulary for describing emotions, learn to recognize facial expressions of their conversation partners, understand another person's perspective and their reactions to certain behaviors, identify events that trigger worsening behavior, use methods for calming down and focusing, and acquire problem-solving skills. The author of the Zones of Regulation is Leah Kuypers
